Integrated energy firm TotalEnergies and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have announced a $550 million final investment decision (FID) for the development of the Ubeta gas field in Nigeria.
The Ubeta field will produce 350 million cubic feet of gas and 10,000 barrels of associated liquids per day. Six wells and a 11km pipeline, transporting gas from the Ubeta production wells to processing facilities in Obite will be developed.
The project will produce 300 million cubic feet of gas per day which will be supplied to the NLNG liquefication plant in Bonny Island, once operational in 2027.
Mike Sangster, Senior Vice President for Africa, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, stated that the FID was facilitated by recent government incentives for non-associated gas developments, adding “Ubeta fits perfectly with our strategy of developing low-cost and low-emission projects, and will contribute to the Nigerian economy through higher NLNG exports.”
The construction of a 5 MW solar plant and the electrification of the drilling rig at the site reduces the project’s carbon footprint and expenditure, according to TotalEnergies. The project contributes to Nigeria’s local content development and employment creation agenda with 90% of manhours set to be worked locally.
