Morocco has announced plans to launch initial tenders for the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP) project in 2025.
Aligning with the country’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines’ 2025 Action Plan, the tenders will target the Moroccan segment of the pipeline, covering 1,672km of the 5,600-km pipeline.
As part of the action plan, a private company will be established to supervise the pipeline’s construction, operation and maintenance.
The NMGP project aims to connect 16 West African countries, ultimately integrating with the Morocco-Europe Gas Pipeline and the European gas network. The participating countries, including Nigeria, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Guinea-Conakry, Liberia, Benin, Ivory Coast, and Morocco, have all signed agreements to support this ambitious regional energy project.
The first phase of the project will involve Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, with additional agreements for gas transport expected to be signed next year. Further phases will extend the pipeline to other participating nations.
Upon completion, the pipeline network is projected to benefit over 340 million while promoting economic integration and socioeconomic development in West Africa while driving energy security in Africa and Europe.
