Lagos State has and Dutch company Harvest Waste Consortium have collaborated to construct a Waste-to-Energy plant.
The plant will utilize advanced technology to convert municipal, commercial and industrial solid waste into clean energy. The initiative has the potential to disconnect approximately 40,000 Lagos households from the national power grid, while enhancing energy security and diversification by generating between 60 and 75 megawatts of reliable electricity annually.
The chosen technology, recognized by the European Commission for its efficiency, aims to minimize environmental impact and promote recycling.
This Waste-to-Energy plant is poised to improve waste management, reduce pollution, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and create job opportunities in the waste management and energy sectors, contributing to a circular economy.
Initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Nigeria and formalized through the Lagos State Office of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP), this collaboration aims to enhance waste management.
