Portuguese multinational energy corporation Galp has launched its second exploration and appraisal campaign in Namibia, spudding the Mopane 1-A well on October 23.
The well marks the first of four planned to evaluate the Mopane discovery and provide crucial insights into its scope and quality. The appraisal campaign is being conducted on blocks 2813A and 2814B on PEL 83 and is anticipated to last approximately three months.
Galp began drilling activities at the Mopane-1X well in November 2023, followed by the Mopane-2X well. Both wells have encountered substantial light oil columns, estimated to contain a minimum of 10 billion barrels of oil and gas equivalent.
With flow rates reaching up to 14,000 barrels of oil per day, testing at these wells indicates high productivity and demonstrates strong potential for commercial viability.
