Italian global energy major Eni is in search of a rig to carry out drilling and well testing operations for the Coral Norte project, located offshore Mozambique in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin.
The major has outlined specific requirements for the rig, including a nominal water depth capacity of 3,000 meters, a minimum drilling depth of 5,500 meters, and the ability to operate effectively in challenging conditions, including harsh sea currents.
Four wells are set to be drilled with start-up scheduled for the third quarter of 2024. The wells will be tied to Eni’s second Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility on the prospect, the $7 billion Coral Norte FLNG facility – pending approval from Government.
Coral Norte is earmarked for first production in the second half of 2027 and follow Eni’s first Rovuma FLNG facility, the Coral Sul FLNG project. Coral Sul achieved first Liquefied Natural Gas cargo delivery in August 2022.
The project falls under efforts by Eni to enhance the exploitation and profitability of Mozambique’s natural gas resources.
