The American government agency Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) will finance water resource infrastructure projects in Senegal through a new compact program.
In 2015 and 2023, the MCC funded two other compacts that enabled Senegal to build significant infrastructure. The first compact focused on enhancing agricultural productivity and expanding access to markets and services through critical infrastructure improvements in the Senegal River Valley and the Casamance region. The second compact aimed to spur economic growth and reduce poverty by improving Senegal’s power sector.
Senegal’s Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation, Abdourahmane Sarr, stated, “The new Senegalese authorities are fully committed to contributing to the consolidation of bilateral relations with the United States.”
