Renewable energy company Masdar and global port operator DP World have announced a strategic partnership to implement renewable energy solutions across DP World’s operations in the Middle East and Africa.
The collaboration aims to assess potential sites for the installation of solar and energy storage systems over a three-year period, focusing initially on locations in Senegal, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
“Masdar and DP World are leading the way in the decarbonization of the company’s port operations and supply chain, to explore all options to advance the development and deployment of renewable energy power and storage systems in hard-to-abate sectors,” said Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, hailed the partnership as a significant advancement in the company’s commitment to sustainable practices at its ports and terminals.
Meanwhile, Al Ramahi emphasized the shared goal of advancing renewable energy deployment in challenging industrial sectors.
DP World is working on the construction of the new US$1.1 billion deepwater port at Ndayane, Senegal. The NDayane port, set to be completed by 2027, will become the largest port in West Africa. It aims to relieve the expected congestion at the port of Dakar following first gas and first oil exports in 2024.
