Drilling-rig operator Maersk Drilling has been awarded a contract to drill three additional development wells at Total-operated Block 17 offshore Angola.
With an estimated length of 140 days and a value of approximately $30 million, the contract will extend into the second quarter of 2021.
“We are delighted to add three more wells to Maersk Voyager’s work scope in Angola, where our operations were re-started in late August following a suspension period due to the restrictions imposed to combat the global pandemic,” said Morten Kelstrup, COO, Maersk Drilling. “We are happy to go back to work in collaboration with the local partners we have engaged to support the campaign.”
French major Total was the first operator to resume offshore drilling, seismic acquisitions and non-routine production and maintenance operations in the country, with the start of the Skyros rig in August, followed by the Maersk Voyager and West Gemini shortly thereafter.
