Italian energy major Eni confirmed plans to launch onshore exploration drilling activities in Libya’s Ghadames Basin in 2025 – as well as an offshore drilling campaign in the Sirte Basin by the end of 2025 – at the Libya-Italy Roundtable and VIP Networking Event in Rome on Monday.
“Exploration is one of the key pillars of any upstream business. We have not stopped looking at Libya from an exploration perspective and we are eager to restart these activities,” said Martina Opizzi, Head of North Africa & the Levant Region for Eni, adding that there are “more than one billion resources” yet to be discovered in Libya.
Eni jointly operates onshore exploration Areas A and B with bp and the Libyan Investment Authority in the Ghadames Basin.
The Libya-Italy Roundtable and VIP Networking Event explored the role of Italian companies in advancing Libya’s oil and gas sector, as well as launched the third edition of the Libya Energy & Economic Summit taking place in Tripoli next year.
