As bilateral trade between Libya and the UK reaches new heights – increasing by more than 10% over the past year – the Libyan British Business Council (LBBC) returns to the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) as a partner for the third time.
The LBBC serves to promote business relations and commercial activity between British and Libyan business communities, with a view to facilitating trade, partnership and investment. In February 2024, the LBBC organized a British business delegation visit to the cities of Tripoli, Zliten and Misrata, and in July 2024 celebrated its 20th anniversary in London. The upcoming LEES 2025, scheduled for 18-19 January, supports efforts to build bridges between Libya and the UK investment community and attract new capital, technology and expertise to Libya’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
The LBBC comprises a diverse range of members, including oil and gas exploration and production companies such as bp and Equinor; service providers such as Consolidated Contractors Company, Petrofac and Wazen Oil Services; insurance and legal firms such as Al Baraka Insurance, Zahaf & Partners Law Firm and Eltumi Partners; and banks such as Bank ABC and BACB.
The Libya Energy & Economic Summit takes place in Tripoli from January 18-19, 2025. The event follows a highly impactful 2024 edition held in official partnership with the Office of the Prime Minister, the National Oil Corporation and the Ministry of Oil and Gas. “The LBBC is delighted to continue its partnership with the Libya Energy & Economic Summit, a crucial platform for fostering collaboration and driving Libya’s economic revival. The opportunities emerging in Libya’s key sectors—especially in oil and gas, renewables, infrastructure, and technology—are immense. The LBBC is committed to facilitating the active participation of British companies, ensuring that the UK plays a pivotal role in supporting Libya’s economic reform, the growth of the private sector and contributing to the prosperity of both nations,” said Peter Millett, Chairman of the LBBC.
“We are delighted to welcome the Libyan British Business Council as a returning partner to the Libya Energy & Economic Summit, affirming the UK’s longstanding commitment to Libya’s economic growth. The new era of growth shaping Libya’s key sectors – oil and gas, renewables, infrastructure, technology and manufacturing and infrastructure – present a strategic opportunity for enhanced participation of British operators, service and technology providers and investors,” states James Chester, CEO of Energy Capital & Power.
