Libya’s oil production has reached 936,000 barrels per day (bpd) following the resumption of activities at four of the country’s oilfields, as well as the re-opening of ports. With targets to increase production to over two million bpd in 2022, the country is focused on ensuring operations strengthen, with these developments proving crucial.
Libya’s oil production wavered in 2021 due to a political blockade of the country’s western oilfields; the shutdown of four ports due to weather conditions; and the closure of a major pipeline due to maintenance. Following the resumption of these activities, the country’s production is on an upward trend.
During 2021, output averaged 1.2 million bpd, falling to 700,000 with the disruptions. Now, with the resumption of key oilfields – including the Sharara field which is currently producing 200,000 bpd – the country is well on its way to meet production targets.
