Australian energy exploration company Kinetiko Energy has completed the spudding of the third well at the Korhaan natural gas project at Amersfoot in South Africa. The well is expected to reach between 400 and 500 meters deep.
With all three wells now spudded –jointly forming one well – the company is moving on to test the gassy sandstones and coal bed methane horizons. The three Korhaan wells will be joined with two adjacent, flow-tested wells to form a five-well cluster.
Kinetiko Energy currently owns exploration rights in the Amersfoot property in South Africa’s Permian Age Coal Fields. Upon revealing the assets 95% gas recovery rate in 2018, the company has taken an accelerated approach to exploration. With all three wells successfully spudded, Kinetiko is optimistic that the asset will become an early pilot-production well.
The drilling campaign marks a significant step in South Africa’s journey to establish a viable, domestic natural gas market. With the country pursuing alternative energy supplies to meet rising demand, natural gas represents an ideal solution.
