Algeria’s national oil company Sonatrach and Spain’s Compañía Española de Petróleos (Cepsa ) have awarded global engineering firm KBR two contracts for the redevelopment of the Rhoude El Krouf Field (RKF) in Algeria.
Under the agreement, KBR will be responsible for the front end engineering design (FEED) and basic engineering design (BED) on the project.
The field, located southeast of Hassim Messaoud city in the east of the country, features oil and gas processing facilities and other associated network systems.
The new contract will include the refurbishment of existing infrastructure in order to boost the country’s oil and gas output, as part of Sonatrach and Cepsa’s joint efforts to increase production.
The redevelopment will cost $1 billion over 25 years, increasing the mature oilfield’s production, including liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and creating 1,500 employment opportunities.
The project includes drilling 30 new wells, as well as building new processing systems boasting a treatment capacity of 24,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 10,000 barrels per day of LPG.
“KBR is proud of its more than 45-year history in Algeria,” Jay Ibrahim, president of KBR’s Energy Solutions – Services unit, said in a written statement. “This project will demonstrate KBR’s ability to utilize its global resources to provide the full capabilities of engineering and FEED services.”
