Renewable energy company JUWI has reached financial close for an off-grid hybrid solar project in Senegal. Located at Eramet Grande Côte’s mineral sands mine, the project will provide 20% of the mine’s energy requirements, marking a significant step towards reducing the mine’s reliance on traditional energy sources.
The project comprises a 20 MWp solar facility and 11 MWh battery storage project and will be built at a cost of €30 million. In addition to providing a clean source of power for the mine’s operations, the hybrid facility is expected to reduce approximately 25,000 tons of carbon emissions annually while creating over 100 jobs during the construction and maintenance phases.
“The clean energy produced by this plant will significantly enhance Eramet Grande Côte’s environmental performance. Our clients will benefit from products with increased environmental value,” said Eramet Grande Côte CEO Frederic Zanklan.
The project represents one of Senegal’s largest hybrid facilities and is set to reduce the mine’s reliance on diesel-fired power generation.
