Metals producer Jubilee has signed a three-year renewable power purchase agreement with independent power producer Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company to bolster energy security and affordability at its Zambian mining operations.
Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company will continue supplying electricity to Jubilee’s Roan Front-End Module and Concentrator – completed in July 2024 – and Sable Copper Refinery at cost-effective tariffs from September 1, 2024.
“Our Roan operation has been impacted by power shortages, which is comprehensively addressed by this agreement,” stated Leon Coetzer, CEO of Jubilee.
Jubilee has the option to purchase an extra 10 MW of solar power at a discount exceeding 30% to support increasing energy demand driven by ongoing mine expansions in Zambia. Jubilee aims to increase its Zambian copper output to 25,000 tons per annum.
