The Japanese International Cooperation Agency has invested $500 million to strengthen power transmission infrastructure along the Lagos-Ogun industrial corridor in southwestern Nigeria.
Announced by Nigeria’s Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu in August, the investment will cover the Agbara, Mowe and Sagamu industrial clusters and will support development of additional power transmission substations while upgrading existing ones.
The investment will also be used to reconduct existing weak high voltage powerlines and provide new extensions for capacity strengthening and expansion to the transmission grid.
The investment falls under Nigeria’s Presidential Power Initiative project, which aims to boost transmission infrastructure within the province’s industrial corridor.
