Energy supermajor Eni has announced the successful startup of Phase 2 of the Baleine field, offshore Ivory Coast. Phase 2 of the project is set to increase production to 60,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and 70 million cubic feet of associated gas.
Oil from the project will be exported to international markets via the FPSO Petrojarl Kong alongside the FSO Yamoussoukro, which have been deployed as part of the project’s second phase. Meanwhile, associated gas from the project will be transported via pipeline – built during the project’s first phase – to meet local energy demands.
The project serves as the largest oil discovery in the country and is also the first net-zero upstream project – in terms of Scope 1 and 2 emissions – in Africa. Phase 3 of the project is currently in development and is set to boost production from the project to 150,000 bpd and 200 million cubic feet of associated gas.
