Italian multinational Eni and Ivory Coast’s national oil company Petroci have announced a major boost in gas supply for the country’s power sector following the launch of Baleine Phase 2 in December 2024.
According to a statement from Eni, up to 70 million cubic feet of gas per day will be allocated entirely to local demand, reinforcing the country’s energy security and strengthening its position as a regional energy hub. In addition to the gas expansion, Eni has tripled its oil production from 20,000 to 60,000 barrels per day (bpd).
The Baleine project is also notable as Africa’s first net-zero upstream development (Scope 1 and 2), achieved through carbon reduction technologies and environmental initiatives such as improved cookstove distribution and forest restoration. With Phase 3 under study, production is projected to reach 150,000 bpd and 200 million cubic feet of associated gas.
