The International Development Association (IDA) has given an additional $36 million to Mauritania as for the Social Safety Net System Support Project II. The Social Safety Net System Project I was launched in 2020 to optimize and coordinate social safety nets for vulnerable populations in the Sahel region in Mauritania.
Mauritanian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, signed a financing agreement with Cristina Isabel Panasco Santos, the World Bank’s resident representative. The IDA is a member of the World Bank Group.
The initiative targets food security, climate change, access to health and education services, social insurance, the improvement of living conditions and promoting vulnerable groups. The funding will expand the national social protection system’s services nationwide by 2025.
