Exploration firm Rhino Resources awarded energy services company Halliburton a contract for its deep-water multi-well construction project offshore Namibia during the Namibia International Energy Conference (NIEC) 2024 conference.
Halliburton will provide solutions for the construction of exploration and appraisal wells in Block 2914A as from Q4 – 2024. Rhino Resources will also use Halliburton’s well and prospect testing services.
The contract aligns with Rhino Resources’ strategy to leverage local and international expertise to expedite Namibia’s oil and gas industry expansion, and foster economic growth and local content development, according to Travis Smithard, the company’s CEO.
“Our partnership sends a definitive signal to the industry that Namibia is open for business and free market competition for the benefit of all stakeholders,” added Smithard.
Halliburton will increase its operational facilities in Namibia to meet the demands of the contract.
“The collaboration will be fueled by more than 10 years of regional experience from Rhino Resources and more than 100 years of Halliburton globally for the service industry,” stated Jean Marc Lopez, Senior Vice President, Europe, Eurasia, and Sub-Saharan Africa at Halliburton, adding that “Halliburton, with its collaborative approach and solutions engineering, is uniquely positioned to maximize asset value in this block with Rhino Resources. Together, we will establish a standard for innovation and economic growth in the industry.”
Antoine Berel, Vice President for sub-Saharan Africa, Halliburton, added that “An important part of the deal is the in-country value creation we can demonstrate to Rhino Resources — it’s not only about presenting a plan, but demonstrating that we are executing on this plan, so we can support all the services in this country.”
Rhino Resources is conducting operations in Block 2914A under Petroleum Exploration License 85. The block’s proximity to a discovery in the Orange Basin, just 20km away, underscores its potential, with a 3D seismic survey revealing promising plays and drillable hydrocarbon prospects.
