Guinea-Conakry has signed an MOU with Russian nuclear energy company Rosatom to cooperate on the development of floating nuclear power plants to generate electricity in the West African country.
The floating power plants will be equipped with RITM-200 reactors, with power to be supplied to both industrial and domestic consumers in the country.
In 2023, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev noted that numerous countries had expressed interest in the company’s floating nuclear power technology, underscoring global demand for flexible and efficient energy solutions.
Guinea-Conakry could be among the first African nations to leverage this technology, bolstering its installed generation capacity and addressing current power shortages in the country.
