Guinea-Conakry’s Ministry of Energy, Hydropower and Hydrocarbons has announced the construction of a 100 MW solar photovoltaic power project, which will supply renewable energy to the cities of Kankan, Siguiri and Kouroussa.
The project – led by Portuguese renewable energy developer Enersado and due to start construction on August 28 – will supply 35 MW each to Kankan and Siguiri and 30 MW to Kouroussa.
Two additional plants of 40 MW each will also be constructed in the cities of Boké and Linsan, boosting energy supplies in the northern part of the country.
In a radio announcement on August 24, Enersado Director of Operations and Communications Oumar Zidane Fofana stated that a distributor is being selected by the country’s energy ministry and that the project will result in the creation of 2,000 jobs.
