Guinea-Conakry’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development has approved an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and granted a certificate of environmental compliance for the Bankan Gold Project.
The approval follows confirmation that no mining activities will occur within the Upper Niger National Park. Additionally, project operator, Predictive Discovery, has committed to a reforestation campaign as part of its environmental stewardship efforts.
The Australian mining firm will apply for an exploration license for the mine by January 31, 2025.
The milestone de-risks the project and advances the development of the Bankan prospects into a Tier 1 gold mine, according to Andrew Pardey, Managing Director of Predictive Discovery.
The company is drilling at the Fouwagbe, Sounsoun, Argo and Bokoro South targets to better define the project’s mineral resources. A definitive feasibility study for the Bankan Gold Project is scheduled for release in the second half of 2025.
