Guinea-Conakry has initiated discussions with undisclosed private partners for the development of 500 MW of solar energy. The medium-term goal is to achieve at least 1 GW of additional mixed energy capacity.
Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah of Guinea-Conakry confirmed his commitment to prioritizing renewable energy to tackle the country’s energy crisis earlier this week. He addressed the deterioration of the electricity supply and reaffirmed efforts to continue consultations and negotiations for immediate electricity distribution solutions.
According to the Prime Minister, measures will be taken to limit the import of energy-intensive and non-compliant equipment and to accelerate the installation of prepaid meters.
“We have undertaken deep reforms in the energy sector to meet current challenges. The government will also implement necessary measures to curb energy waste,” he said.
He also stressed that “electric energy, an indispensable commodity for economic development and the well-being of the population, is at the heart of the government’s concerns.”
