The development of the first phase of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Senegal and Mauritania is nearing completion, with project partners advancing the commissioning of liquefaction vessels in line with Q1 2024 production targets.
The departure of the floating LNG vessel – the 2.5 million-ton-per-annum Gimi vessel – is expected at the end of 2023, with its arrival set for early 2024.
Project partners Kosmos Energy, bp, Senegal’s Petrosen and Mauritania’s Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures are currently working with marine LNG infrastructure company Golar LNG to fast-track the commissioning of the vessel.
Meanwhile, the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit is expected to arrive at the project site by Q1 2024. The vessel departed China in January 2023, leaving Mauritius in September 2023. Following the arrival, hookup and commissioning of the FPSO unit, production will kick off.
At the project site, construction has been finalized for the hub terminal, with the handover to operations complete. Development has also progressed on the subsea work scope, with subsea work re-contracted during the previous quarter to Swiss-based offshore contractor Allseas and Italian multinational contractor Saipem. Allseas and Sapiem will start the deepwater pipelay and infield flow lines in December 2023, with works set to be complete in Q1 2024.
