The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, situated on the maritime border straddling Senegal and Mauritania, is 95% completion and is due to start production by the end of 2024.
The announcement was made by Mauritania’s Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy Nani Ould Chrougha on July 24 during a site visit to the GTA project’s FPSO vessel along with his Senegalese counterpart Minister Birame Souleye Diop.
“We are progressively and steadily approaching the first gas shipment, and we are more eager than ever for this event,” stated Minister Crougha.
With estimated reserves exceeding 15 trillion cubic feet, the GTA project – which is operated by energy supermajor bp and upstream oil company Kosmos Energy – aims to produce 2.3 million tons of LNG annually for 20 years.
