Oil and gas company BW Energy has increased the recoverable reserves estimate for the Hibiscus field – located offshore Gabon.
The announcement comes after BW Energy concluded the drilling and logging of the DHIBM-7P pilot well, which confirmed a sizeable oil discovery with good reservoir quality. Preliminary evaluation of the logging showed an increase of approximately 8 million to 12 million barrels of oil in the field’s gross recoverable reserves.
The pilot well was drilled by the Borr Norve jack-up rig to a total depth of 3,941m in a target area situated approximately 1.5km north-northwest of the MaBoMo production platform. The hydrocarbon column extends across the boundary between the Gamba and Dentale formation and serves as the first common Gamba-Dentale hydrocarbon accumulation in the Hibiscus field.
The Hibiscus field is situated in the Dussafu license, which is owned and operated by BW Energy with a 73.5% interest. The remaining share is held by independent exploration and production company Panoro Energy and the parastatal Gabon Oil Company with 17.5% and 9%, respectively.
BW Energy aims to complete the pilot well as a development well later this year.
