Global energy major bp has announced a new milestone for the development of the large-scale Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) liquefied natural gas (LNG) project -–located offshore Mauritania and Senegal -– with the departure of the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel from China.
bp has stated that the FPSO unit sailed from China, where the infrastructure development and testing was undertaken, to Senegal and Mauritania’s maritime border on 20 January, with the vessel traveling across 12,000 nautical miles via Singapore.

With the continued support of our partners, Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures in Mauritania, Petrosen in Senegal and Kosmos Energy, we remain committed to helping both countries to develop their world-class resources in a sustainable way.”
The FPSO unit will house 140 people on board to conduct production operations, and comprises 81,000 tons of steel, 37,000 meters of pipe stools and 1,52 million meters of cables.
Developed by Cosco Shipping and Technip Energies, once installed at the project’s site, the FPSO will leverage its eight processing and production modules to process around 500 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and produce around 2.3 million tons of LNG per year.
