Fossil fuels are projected to make up the majority of the global energy mix through 2030 and account for over 75% of total demand, according to a study by research and intelligence company Rystad Energy.
The study shows that global primary energy demand is expected to exceed 650 exajoules and that oil and gas will continue to make up the majority of the world’s power supply.
According to Rystad Energy, the global reliance on hydrocarbons underscores the need for oil and gas companies to build sustainable portfolios and reduce emissions to meet long-term environmental objectives.
Rystad Energy highlights the importance of Premium Energy Basins, which combine abundant hydrocarbon reserves with the potential for integrating low-carbon solutions. These basins hold significant promise for both hydrocarbon production and renewable energy development, positioning them as key contributors to the global effort to reduce emissions while meeting ongoing energy needs.
