During an event in Nouakchott, ExxonMobil’s Country Manager, Bernard Piales announced the company recently launched a 3D seismic offshore data acquisition program to support the assessment of hydrocarbons potential, which is expected to conclude in 2019.
The activity will be conducted at least 100km offshore, away from high biodiversity areas and local fishing activity.
Following major gas discoveries on the Mauritania/Senegal border, Nouakchott is now host to four super majors; Shell, ExxonMobil, BP and Total.
As part of the Mauritanian – Senegal – The Gambia – Guinea-Bissau – Guinea-Conakry (MSGBC) Basin, Mauritania is receiving increased international interest due to its highly prospective waters and ever improving business climate.
ExxonMobil opened a temporary office in Mauritania in June 2018 and will finalize the implantation of its permanent office in Q1 2019.
