Equatorial Guinea’s government and engineering services company Shanghai Supezet have signed a MoU for the construction of a refinery in the country.
The MoU was signed on May 2 by Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President Nguema Obiang Mangue and Zhang Jinhong, President of Shanghai Supezet, and will facilitate the development of a joint venture to oversee the refinery’s construction.
Crude oil at the refinery will be processed for domestic use in Equatorial Guinea.
During a state meeting to China, Vice President Mangue also discussed collaborating on additional energy projects including natural gas processing and green hydrogen.
Also present at the meeting were representatives from Equatorial Guinea’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Mines and Hydrocarbons; Finance, Economy and Planning; and Treasury and State Heritage, as well as executives from state-owned GEPetrol and Sonagas.
