Italian oil major Eni has launched a new production well in the Vandumbu field about 350km north-west of Soyo, in the West Hub of Block 15/06 offshore Angola.
The start-up of the VAN-103 well, alongside a previous well in the Mpungi field, marks a further step in the development of the field, which was launched last November.
The start-ups mark the progress in the phased and clustered development strategy that Eni has adopted for the Block, and which has allowed the start-up of eight fields since November 2014, when production in the West Hub started with the Sangos field.
Eni operates the block with a 36.84 percent stake, through a joint venture with Angola’s state oil company Sonangol (36.84 percent) and SSI Fifteen (26.32 percent). The company has a net production of roughly 150,000 barrels of oil-equivalent per day in Angola.
