Italian based global energy company Eni, in collaboration with Algeria’s national oil company (NOC), Sonatrach, has officially started production at the HDLE/HDLS oilfield located in the Zemlet el Arbi concession in the Berkine North Basin onshore Algeria.
The start of production comes merely six months after the discovery of oil in March 2022, with the field now producing 10,000 barrels per day (bpd). Already, plans to increase production at the oilfield are underway with Eni and Sonatrach devising an accelerated development plan which incorporates the drilling of new wells from 2023 and beyond.
According to a press release issued by Eni, “This achievement, reached in partnership with Sonatrach and in cooperation with the local authorities, was made possible by Eni’s distinctive upstream business model, based on the parallelization of project activities.”
For Sonatrach, the start of production signals a new era of supply security and revenue generation both for the NOC and for the country at large, while for Eni, contributes significantly towards the company’s already strong foothold in the North African country.
