Libyan Prime Minister H.E. Abdulhamid M. A. Dabiba and Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) Mustafa Sanalla met with CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, in Tripoli last Tuesday, to discuss Eni’s current and future investment strategy in the country.
H.E. Prime Minister Dabiba extolled Eni for its contributions to health and social welfare initiatives across the country through the company’s provision of medical supplies and equipment during the pandemic. The oil and gas major will be providing additional consumables aimed at increasing COVID-19 diagnostic capacity and treating severe cases
For his part, Descalzi affirmed Eni’s commitment to its operations in Libya, emphasizing investments in natural gas aimed at increasing the country’s installed power generation capacity and boosting energy access. Specifically, the company is spearheading several offshore projects under development, including Structures A&E, Bouri Gas Utilization and Sabratha Compression at the offshore Bahr Essalam field.
The three parties also addressed potential cooperation within Libya’s renewable sector, which could diversify the domestic energy matrix while reducing carbon emissions and providing decentralized power solutions. The Italian multinational is already in the process of defining technical specifications for a photovoltaic plant with battery storage to be constructed in remote parts of the country.
