Egyptian electrical company Elsewedy Electric and construction firm Arab Contractors have successfully connected three hydro turbine generators to Tanzania’s national power grid.
Announced by Tanzania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Doto Biteko on July 16, the additional units will increase the power supply from the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Project (JNHPP) by 705 MW.
“This progress ensures that our electricity generation capacity is robust, allowing us to focus on stabilizing the infrastructure for electricity transmission,” stated Minister Biteko.
The JNHPP, which is under construction on the Rufiji River in eastern Tanzania, will supply an estimated 2,115 MW to Tanzania’s grid upon completion.
