Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly recently met with the country’s foreign affairs and water ministers to discuss efforts to enhance cooperation with South Sudan. The meeting included Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossam Issa.
During the meeting, which took place on April 21, Minister Shoukry emphasized Egypt‘s commitment to preserving its long-standing close relationship with South Sudan. He noted that through multiple agencies and ministries, the Egyptian government is actively engaged in development initiatives in South Sudan, which are further supported by grants and assistance from the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development
He further highlighted the accelerated progress of current projects and the preparation of draft agreements across various sectors. Major development projects in South Sudan with Egyptian support include the Alexandria University branch in the town of Tong, a technical school in Warur and an electricity power plant in Rumbek.
Last month, Egypt’s Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources began construction of eight solar-powered groundwater pumping stations in South Sudan while the inauguration of two drinking water stations in the cities of Mingla and Nimuli was held in January.
