EG LNG – located on Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea– announced the loading of its 700th liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment last week.
EG LNG is operated by Marathon Oil Corporation with shareholders Marubeni, Mitsui & Co and state-owned National Society of Gas (SONAGAS and has been an important contributor to Equatorial Guinea’s socio-economic development.
“We sincerely congratulate all the team of EG LNG on this remarkable achievement and on making the entire nation proud,” said Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, H.E. Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima.
The gas plant was inaugurated by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo in October 2007 and has been delivering LNG to global markets ever since. It is at the center of the Punta Europa complex, which is currently undergoing expansion and diversification to further monetize domestic gas.
“Through projects such as EG LNG, the country has positioned itself as an African energy leader and will continue to provide the right environment for companies to invest in such assets and lead Africa towards greater prosperity.” The minister added.
