International financial institution the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) invested €1.5 billion in Egypt in 2024.
Egypt secured the largest share of EBRD’s €2.4 billion investment made across 50 new projects in the southern and eastern Mediterranean region last year, according to the bank.
Among the 26 Egyptian projects supported were the 1.1 GW Suez Wind Farm, which secured $275 million in funding and Paymob’s Digital Transformation initiative which secured $22 million. The EBRD also facilitated energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts through a $500 million sustainability bond and supported over 700 small enterprises through its Advice for Small Businesses program.
Up to 98% of EBRD investments in Egypt were in the private sector, 50% in green financing while 60% focused on women empowerment.
