Uranium exploration company Aura Energy has started a 15,500m extensional drilling program at the Tiris Uranium project in the Tiris Zemmour region in northern Mauritania. Up to seven exploration targets will be drilled under the program, the results of which are expected to significantly expand the site’s mineral resource estimate.
Aura Energy plans to complete extensional drilling by February 2024, targeting 100,000 pounds of the U308 uranium compound through the program. Up to 19,000m of drilling have been completed to date, revealing a mineral resource estimate of 113 metric tons at an average grade of 236 parts per million of U308.
Aura Energy Managing Director David Woodall stated that the company “is undertaking this program because we believe the Tiris Uranium project can grow to represent a globally significant uranium province. The enhanced feasibility study illustrated that the simply mining methods and beneficiation at Tiris deliver a huge economic advantage with a potential to scale U308 production beyond the currently planned production of two Mlbs U308 per annum.”
In addition to the extensional drilling program and following the granting of the respective licenses, the company is also preparing to kick-off additional exploration activities of the tenements in the areas surrounding Tiris. Aura Energy plans to test these targets over the next two years.
