Egypt has started the construction of the fourth generating unit at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.
Developed in partnership with Russian nuclear firm Rosatom, the completion of the fourth and final unit will lead to a combined generating capacity of 4.8 GW at the $30 billion facility.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated that, “Introducing nuclear energy to the energy mix…is crucial to meeting the growing demand for electrical energy,” adding that the project will help the North African country reduce the reliance on imported fossil fuels.
Russian President Vladimir Putin added that the project underpins Russia’s goals of supporting socioeconomic growth in Egypt by contributing to the creation of modern industries and qualified jobs.
