The upcoming Critical Minerals Africa (CMA) 2023 summit has released its three-day program, which unites public and private sector industry leaders in an effort to establish world-class mineral supply chains in Africa. Kicking off the main conference agenda on October 18 is a ministerial forum featuring ministers from South Sudan, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and ministry representatives from Tanzania and Zimbabwe, who will outline their visions for Africa’s critical minerals sector and cement the continent’s status as a mining hub.
A series of investor briefings from the U.S., U.K., European Union and Argentina will follow, demonstrating rising foreign interest in Africa’s critical minerals reserves, with a view to facilitating a global energy transition and achieving mineral security.
Panel discussions will target a range of topics, from private sector success in the exploration and processing of Africa’s critical minerals, to the most impactful mining projects underway across the continent. Additional panels will address the future of Africa’s minerals economy and how to build more resilient supply chains, as well as the integration of ESG into existing mining activities and how to ensure local beneficiation and value addition within the sector.
Preceding the main conference agenda is a full day of strategic presentations aimed at promoting sustainable partnerships, policies and projects in raw materials and strengthening global critical mineral supply chains. Presentations will be made by the South African Institute of International Affairs, Rystad Energy, Critical Minerals International Alliance, the EU Delegation to South Africa, Steenkampskraal, and Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies.
The final day of the conference features investor briefings on Angola, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Sudan, which will delve into each country’s untapped mineral potential, regulatory frameworks and current and planned mining operations.
The Critical Minerals Africa 2023 summit on October 17-19 serves to position Africa as the primary investment destination for critical minerals. The event is held alongside the African Energy Week 2023 conference on October 16-20, offering delegates access to the full scope of energy, mining and finance leaders in Cape Town.
