Investment holding company Zanaga Iron Ore Company Limited (ZIOC) has signed a MoU with private power producer Centrale Électrique du Congo (CEC) to explore power supply solutions for its Zanaga Iron Ore Project in the Republic of Congo.
The partnership will assess technical, economic and legal aspects of power generation and distribution to support the Zanaga Project’s initial phase, which targets an annual production capacity of 12 million tons of iron ore.
“ZIOC’s partnership with CEC further reinforces the industry’s view that the Zanaga Project is world class, opening the path to establish the required power needs for the Project,” stated ZIOC Chairman Clifford Elphick.
The Zanaga Iron Ore Project, located in western Congo, is one of the world’s largest iron ore reserves, with estimated resources of 6.9 billion tons, including 2.1 billion tons in reserves.
The project is planned to be developed in stages, ultimately aiming for a production capacity of 30 million tons per annum.
