The African Development Bank (AfDB) has awarded the Republic of Congo a $1.5 million grant to modernize energy infrastructure, improve electricity access and address energy deficit.
The grant package includes $585,000 to fund development studies for hydropower projects, such as the Mbanza Ndounga and Linzolo projects.
Meanwhile, a $995,000 grant will support feasibility studies and the design of new transmission lines connecting Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville, as well as Loudima and Djambala. The grants will facilitate the creation of power pools with neighboring countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The AfDB-funded studies align with Congo’s electrification strategy, which focuses on expanding access to rural and urban areas to ensure universal electricity access, according to Ludovic Ngatse, Congolese Minister of the Economy, Planning, and Regional Integration.
