Congolese President Denis Sassou-N’Guesso has expressed interest in enhancing cooperation between the Republic of Congo (RoC) and Russian companies in the oil and nuclear sectors.
President Sassou-N’Guesso also highlighted the long-standing bilateral defense relationship, under which hundreds of Congolese officers have been trained in Russian military institutions In a statement on Monday.
In July 2024, an agreement was signed between Russian state-owned Rosatom and the RoC to collaborate on the peaceful use of nuclear energy and hydroelectric power. Additionally, in June 2024, Presidents Sassou-N’Guesso and Russia’s Vladimir Putin agreed to further develop Russo-Congolese cooperation in the energy sector.
