Transitional energy company Chariot has discovered gas upon drilling the OBA-1 well on the Dartois prospect onshore Morocco. The discovery comes after the company initially drilled the RZK-1 well earlier this month.
The OBA-1 well represents the second phase of a two-well drilling operation within the Loukos Onshore license area, which is managed jointly by Chariot and Morocco’s national oil company, ONHYM.
The OBA-1 well reached a depth of 901 meters, tapping into target reservoirs. Further analysis is underway to prepare for flow testing to assess the well’s productivity and gas reserves.
“Our two first wells have both been successful in confirming our geological model for reservoir distribution and the presence of gas, which bodes well for future exploration activity,” said Duncan Wallace, Technical Director of Chariot.
Chariot plans to launch an offshore drilling and testing campaign on the Anchois gas field in Q3 2024 with partner exploration company Energean, aiming to increase the development to over one trillion cubic feet.
