Pan-African technology company Cassava Technologies has launched a renewable energy training initiative in South Africa, in collaboration with multinational corporation and technology conglomerate Microsoft. The initiative seeks to equip local communities with the requisite skills to develop and strengthen renewable energy technologies, thereby driving an energy transition in the country.
Under the terms of the partnership, the companies will create training hubs across local communities in the country, focusing specifically on the cities of Cape Town and Johannesburg. The hubs will feature programs in renewable energy development, energy efficiency and micro-grids, supporting women and youth as they up-skill.
Finhai Munzara, Chief Corporate Development Officer, Cassava Technologies, stated that the project “ensures we bring all Africans along as we transition to a digitally connected future using sustainable energy. By leveraging our technological expertise, on-the-ground experience and Microsoft’s global reach, we are poised to make a lasting, positive impact on South African communities.”
The collaboration has the potential to expand into other markets in Africa, with Cassava Technologies leveraging its existing renewable energy subsidiary and extensive South African footprint to empower local communities.
“We are pleased to work with Cassava to support climate initiatives in South Africa that enhance local communities, ensuring that those all have the tools to thrive,” stated Markus Swart, Director of Data Centre Operations in South Africa, Microsoft.
