Cameroon Mining Action (Camina) has awarded an engineering contact to consulting and engineering company Wood for the Ngovayang iron ore project in Cameroon.
Under the scope of the contract, Wood will provide engineering and mine design services for the $800 million development.
“Wood’s iron ore processing capabilities and experience on similar highly challenging, complex and remote projects position us well to deliver this important project with Camina,” stated Wood President of Projects for the Eastern Hemisphere Gerry Traynor.
Wood will design a mineral processing plant capable of producing 7.2 million tons of magnetite iron ore annually as well as a 130 km concentrate pipeline to transport the ore from the mine to the Port of Kribi.
With the iron ore market projected to grow to $400 billion by 2032, the Ngovayang project is expected to serve as a model for expanding Cameroon’s energy transition metals industry, indicated Traynor.
The mine holds an estimated 300 million tons of iron ore, with potential for further reserves through ongoing exploration efforts.
The project is set for completion by Q2 2025.
