Global oil and gas services company TechnipFMC will take on the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) of the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project.
The contract, valued between $500 million and $1 billion according to TechnipFMC, was awarded by project operator BP following a successful front end engineering design (FEED) contract in April last year. The Tortue Ahmeyim gas field, located on the border between Mauritania and Senegal, is estimated to contain 15 trillion cubic feet of gas resources.
The production infrastructure will consist of an initial ultra-deepwater subsea system connecting the first four wells to the mid-water FPSO through production pipelines. The FPSO vessel will treat the gas, removing heavier hydrocarbon items. Upon that, liquids will be removed from the gas which will then be transferred to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal by pipeline. Following liquefication, the gas will be transported to a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility located near the Mauritania and Senegal border.
Last week, Golar LNG announced it signed a 20-year lease and operate agreement with BP for the charter of Gimi, the FLNG unit. First gas is expected in 2022 and Gimi is designed to produce 2.5 million metric tons of LNG per year on average.
Nello Uccelletti, President of TechnipFMC’s Onshore/Offshore department stated: “This award is one of our strategic early engagement achievements, following the successful completion by TechnipFMC of the FEED study.”
The GTA is the first major LNG project to reach final investment decision in the basin.
