Mining firm Botswana Diamonds has launched an exploration campaign utilizing AI to detect and map deposits of diamonds and other minerals in Botswana.
The campaign employs the “Xplore mineral prospectivity” technology, developed by technology firm Planetary AI and mining consultancy International Geoscience Services. Approximately 380 GB of data and 260,000 files – covering 95,000 km² of data, 375,000 km of airborne geophysical data, 606 ground surveys, 228,000 soil sample results and 32,000 drill hole logs – will be assessed to identify and address operational gaps.
Botswana Diamonds currently holds the second-largest diamond exploration database in the country, with Botswana representing the world’s largest diamond producer by value and second-largest by volume.
