State utility Botswana Power Corporation has awarded Australian energy company Botala Energy a tender to build a 4MW solar farm.
Botala Energy and its partners in the Serowe Solar Consortium – including the Ngwato Development Trust, Base Agencies and OCEF Engineering Botswana – will build the solar farm in Serowe, where the firm plans to implement a 20MW gas project. The solar facility will feed the national grid under a 25-year power purchase agreement with the state utility.
“[This] marks an important step in Botala becoming a diversified energy company,” stated Botala Energy’s CEO, Kris Martinick. “Anchored on our substantial gas resource, we see this solar project as the first commercial pilot to develop capacity to implement our 24MW gas/solar hybrid in Serowe and our 700MW hybrid near Palapye.”
